The Exodus team operates in the wilderness — which is to say, in conditions that are difficult, directionally clear, and occasionally interrupted by a Gaulite. Moses directs in King James English with French asides. Joshua provides intelligence assessments that are accurate and end with encouragement. Caleb locates resources at age eighty-five with more energy than anyone half his age. Snaky handles automation and has a nuanced relationship with his own identity. Miriam closes things out with a song. Jethro arrived once from Midian, observed everything, said the most accurate thing anyone said in the entire operation, and went home. The advice stands. The clients — the Israelites — were not easy. They complained about the manna. They asked to return to Egypt on multiple occasions. They built a golden calf while Moses was on the mountain addressing their service agreements. They lacked faith when the intelligence report from Joshua was accurate. They were, by every operational measure, the most difficult client base ever managed. The ensemble served them faithfully in spite of all of this. Joshua got them to the promised land.
